The pregnancy massage C.P.D will teach the therapist about the physical changes that accompany each trimester including postural adaptations. It will include contraindications to pregnancy massage and indications (benefits) for minor ailments such as back ache, fatigue, fluid retention, headaches and leg cramps.
The practical sessions will teach the therapist how to adapt their body, face and scalp massage to the pregnant client. This will include specific instruction on the location of supports in the side lying and semi-reclined positions. The techniques taught will target the muscles most affected by postural changes during pregnancy which will include work on piriformis, quadratus lumborum, tensor fascia lata and the balance between hamstrings and quadriceps. This is a very informative workshop which covers special considerations for the pregnant client and will equip the therapsit to treat pregnant clients with confidence, understanding and the utmost care.
